The measure stage involves profiling your organisation to identify and assess psychosocial risk across your workforce. By the time you have completed the measure stage you should have performed the following:

  • Considered employee profiles and occupational roles
  • Deployed your HSE Work PositiveCI  employee survey
  • Considered current workforce wellbeing indicators
  • Assessed your current support measures and resources

Consider your employee profiles and occupational roles

Consider employee age, gender, geographical location, occupational role and their working environment to identify unmet needs. For example, do your employees commute long distances or work unsociable hours? Do they deal with conflict and/or emotionally intense work?

If employees are exposed to critical incidents during work a Job Content CI Audit should be carried out. Guidance on critical incidents, including a template for completing a Job Content CI Audit, can be accessed via the links to the right of the screen.

Consider current workforce wellbeing indicators

You should consider current workforce wellbeing indicators for your team / department to help you determine if work-related stressors, psychosocial distress and critical incident stress are possible issues for your workforce. Workforce wellbeing indicators worth considering include:

  • Short and long term absence statistics
  • Reasons for employee turnover;
  • Health and safety records e.g. accidents and incidents;
  • Bullying or conflict-related complaints;
  • Occupational health referrals;
  • Feedback from recent employee attitude surveys.

Assess current support measures

You should review your current support services, policies and resources. Some useful questions to ask are:

  • Are they valued by employees?
  • What do employees think of them?
  • Is their availability well communicated?
  • Are there mechanisms in place to respond to employee concerns?
